Event Report - 2003 January 24-26, Training Visit by Charles Mahan

Charles Mahan was in Houston with his wife Marissa that weekend, and graciously agreed to instruct us each day. He is one of John-sensei's advanced students, and lives in Denton where he has been doing MJER Iaido for about five years, and holds sandan rank. He is a wonderful instructor, and has worked with us several times before on his trips to Houston. Practices occurred on Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday afternoon. Practice mostly centerd on seiza, but also included four drills with bokutou (nukitsuke, kirioroshi, kesa giri, and one-handed kesa), Batto Ho, and a short session on Tate Hiza. Unfortunately the weather was not very good, especially on Sunday, but for those few who braved the cold wet weather they were rewarded by Charles' inspirational instruction. We look forward to his return.
